You discipline a German shepherd puppy by:
- Being consistent. Discipline your puppy in the same way each time, otherwise it will get confused and frustrated. Your puppy will not understand you and you will not be able to get rid of unwanted behavior from the puppy.
- Having short daily training sessions. Only spend 5 to 10 minutes a day training your German shepherd puppy. Any training session that is longer than 10 minutes will frustrate and bore your puppy. Being proactive in your training will lead to fewer instances where you need to discipline your puppy.
- Avoiding stressing or confusing them. Shouting or getting physical with your German shepherd puppy will only cause a strain between you two, and your puppy will act out if stressed or confused.
- Distracting your puppy. If your puppy is chewing on your shoes or furniture, give your dog a chew toy to play with. Let your puppy know what is appropriate behavior.
